Port of Montana:

  • Strategically located at the only rail interline in Montana of the Burlington Northern and Union Pacific Railroads and two major interstates, I-15 North/South and I-90 East/West, the Port of Montana Intermodal Hub is ideally positioned to serve shippers
  • Hub facilities include a Forest Products Transload Building; Fertilizer Transload; Bulk Storage Facility; 10 acres paved and lighted TOFC/CPFC list on/off open staging area; 6 rail tracks; certifies scales: two truck and one rail; Maintenance Building; and an 85,000 square foot heated, dry, and refrigerated warehouse.
  • Hub services include general cargo vanning and devanning; bulk commodity transloading, storage and reclaiming; forest products reload and storage; documentation preparation, domestic and international; transportation planning; container/trailer/chassis equipment inventory and repair; warehouse storage, domestic and international; U.S. Customs clearance and bonded storage. Rail:

  • Railroads serving Silver Bow County include Montana Western/Montana Rail Link/Burlington Northern; Rarus; and Union Pacific.
  • The nearest loading point and functional piggy back service is 6 miles from the city. As many as 12 freight train trips serve Butte-Silver Bow per week.

Motor Carrier:

  • Butte-Silver Bow is served by two interstate highways and two state highways. It is situated at the crossroads of Interstate 15 (North/South) and Interstate 90 (East/West).
  • The county is accessed by two interstate bus service companies, Greyhound and Intermountain.
  • Some of the trucking firms serving the county are Western Transport Line, Yellow Freight, Molerway Freight Lines, Consolidated Freightways, Transystems, Roadway Express, ANA Transport, Biggers Transport, Irving Trucking, Americana Expressways, Highland, S&J Trucking, Prince, Kenyon-Noble, Rob Clark, RB&C Trucking, Solberg, and Ward Trucking. There are well over 1,000 motor freight carriers that serve Montana and have access to Butte-Silver Bow.

Air:

  • Butte-Silver Bow is directly served by a public airport. Its elevation is 5545 feet. The runways, the longest of which is 9,000 feet, are lighted and hard-surfaced.
  • A full range of general aviation services is available at Bert Mooney Airport by fixed base operator, Butte Aviation, Inc.: fuel, maintenance, charter, flight instruction, pilot supplies and retail aid, aircraft storage, aircraft rental, low and high pressure oxygen, aircraft lubricants, etc.
